ABOUT: Lilith Smith earned her MFA from the University of Cincinnati College of DAAP in 2012. Her work is comprised of fabric installations, drawings, paintings, and video. Lilith’s work has been exhibited in London, England; St. Petersburg, Russia; Brisbane, Australia and throughout the United States. Currently, Lilith serves as full time arts faculty in painting and drawing at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, NE. STATEMENT: As a maker, I am captivated by the sensitivities of touch and intimacy that occur within physical and liminal spaces. The haptic quality of drawing informs and energizes creative approaches and inclinations within my studio practice. Digital painting and collage-based methods of image-making serve to encapsulate personal reflections of intimacy experienced by myself and with others. Textiles such as satin and chiffon beckon to the tactile nature of these encounters, while crystal beads are embroidered onto the surfaces of fabric to elicit moments of pause.
